Shed Pad

We do a lot of work With Kramer Sheds and provide their customers with quality Shed Pads. Shed pads can be installed for a lot more than Kramer Sheds, they can be used underneath anyone’s sheds although we recommend you get a quality shed from Joe at Kramer sheds. (https://kramersheds.com/)

Anatomy of a shed pad

Shed pads are level pads designed for maximum drainage. Other companies will just dump some rock on the ground and smooth it out. Drainage stone (2B) is the same material found in a leaching field is optimum for this type of drainage to keep your shed floor dry and away for forces that may rot your shed. Once rot begins. Next insect infiltration. Avoid this with the proper amount of drainage stone. We recommend 5 1/2” of 2B stone. We build a frame of ground contact lumber leveled with ground contact 4X4s and reinforced with 45 degree angles in every corner, double joists at all mating surfaces. No cell is greater than 8’x8’ allowing the use of dimensional lumber, galvanized or stainless-steel lags and thru bolts are used throughout construction. The shed pad is always constructed at least 1’ wider and 1’ longer than your actual shed. In the case of these pictures a 12’ x 23’ shed gets a 13’x24’ shed pad.

Shed pads can be used for many other uses. they become a wonderful ground lever desk for the back yard, a tent platform, Adarondack shelter, and many other uses.

The finished frame is then filled with ¾ inch (2B) drainage stone.  Dranage stone NEVER settles.  It will always remain loose and will shift in time.  This is why the frame is necessary to keep the stone from shifting and making your shed no longer level.  This will cause the doors and windows not to work, and give you many leakage problems in the future.

Sometimes customers want their sheds in an already unlevel environment.  This requires some special arrangements and construction.  He you can see a severely unlevel area that we addressed with a stacked stone foundation.  It is a stunning and beautiful addition to any shed pad.

Here is the finished product on a stacked stone foundation. A lovely addition to your home thanks to Joe at Kramer Sheds and the boys at Craftmen Farms.

Ramps

Especially when the ground around your home is not only unlevel, but also slopes in the wrong direction, we have a ramp system to allow your shed to be both practical and accessible to you.

Here is our super duty ramp for vehicle entry:

First the 12” ground contact lumber is carefully cut exactly the same for all 6 boards for an 8’ ramp.  As the weight of the vehicle is borne at the edges for the tires, board 2. And 5 and carefully placed to land in the middle of the vehicle tire track supporting the major weight.

Next the top and bottom sills are installed to keep the exact spacing.

The ramp is then backfilled with 2A (mix of grit, ¾ stone, and pea gravel) and is carefully compacted into the forms.

Treads are placed across the ramp on top of the compacted stone, and edge boards are put into place.  The boards are not only supported by the uprights but by the compacted stone itself.

Finished ramp

We always test our auto ramp with a loaded dump truck so we can prove to ourselves that the construction is safe and ready for your (Much lighter) vehicle.
